EDO STATE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL BEGINS

The Edo State International Film Festival (ESIFF) returned for its highly anticipated second edition today. This Festival promises a celebration of global cinema and artistic innovation. Kicking off on the 30th of November 2023, the festival is set to dazzle filmmakers and movie lovers until December 2nd, as it is offering a platform for diverse cinematic expressions.

ESIFF made its impressive debut in 2022 after the initiative was birthed in 2022, and has rapidly established itself as a cornerstone of cultural expression in Benin City, Edo State. With the State Government strongly behind ESIFF, it has quickly become prominent, and the quality of the marketing and Organisation drew films that promises to be beautiful and qualitative.

The festival’s Venue finds is the prestigious Victor Uwaifo Hub, situated on Airport Road in Benin City. This location provides an ideal backdrop, blending modern infrastructure with cultural heritage, fostering an atmospheric condition that is conducive to celebrating cinematic brilliance. This fusion of modern infrastructure and cultural heritage sets the stage for an immersive cinematic experience, harmonizing the allure of cinema with the richness of tradition.

Victor Efosa Uwaifo MON who the venue was named after was a Nigerian musician, writer, sculptor, and musical instrument inventor, university lecturer, music legend, and the first Honorable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria. He was the winner of the first gold disc in Africa (Joromi) released in 1965 and seven other gold discs in Guitar boy, Arabade, Ekassa series and Akwete music. He recorded under the name “Victor Uwaifo and His Titibitis”.

This year, ESIFF boasts a staggering lineup of 486 films spanning various genres, cultures, and storytelling techniques. From thought-provoking documentaries to riveting narratives and avant-garde creations, the festival promises an eclectic mix catering to diverse tastes.
