TOYIN ABRAHAM: THE CINEMA QUEEN

Popularly known for her role in Elevator baby, the outstanding actress has gradually made her way up, creating a path for herself. Toyin Aimahku popularly known as Toyin Abraham since 2016, is an Edo born actress, born in Auchi. The versatile actress was born on the 5th of September 1981, and has climbed her way up the ladder through different roles across different movies.

She began her education in Edo state and attended Oba Kenzo Nursery and Primary School before her family moved to Ibadan. Before proceeding to get a degree in Business studies at Iree Polytechnic, she attended Queen’s Staff School and St. Annes School, Ibadan. Then later went on to Olabisi Onabanjo University,  where she got a degree in philosophy, before returning to the Polytechnic for a HND in marketing. Toyin is the last of 5 children.

Acting Career:

The Edo born actress began her acting career 2003 quite spontaneously, when she featured in Dugbe Nbo, A Bukky Wright’s movie, when Bukky visited Ibadan to audition and shoot her movie in Ibadan, and her career took off from there.

Subsequently, she began to star in more films and gradually rose to fame and stardom a few years later. Rising to stardom gave her a platform and she later produced her first movie, Alajota, in 2021

The actress is known to feature more in comic roles and solidified her place as a comic actor in a self produced movie, Alakada Reloaded.  She has starred, produced and even directed multiple Nollywood films including Elevator baby, Ebimi, Okafor’s law amongst others.

Toyin Abraham has hacked and owned her career, with over 9 million followers, she is one of the most well paid Nollywood actresses. According to her, starring in Okafor’s Law and working with movie director Omoni Oboli was highly instrumental to her brand she has since gone on to create her path and effortlessly stand out.

The award winning actress has multiple award in her name including

– Best Actress ‘Alakada’, Ben TV Awards, 2014

– Best Indigenous Actress, Nigeria Entertainment Award, 2014

– Best Supporting Actress ‘Tatu’ Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), 2018 amongst many others.

Controversies

First Married in 2013, she got divorced in 2015 and later remarried an actor in 2019, the actress is blessed with 2 children.  She is mostly known for her controversies and as such is disliked mostly for it. The actress’s public support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last elections put her in  a tight corner and set her up for drags due to many obvious reasons. The same scenarios played out in 2015, when she declared being ready to die for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s party, PDP. Aside from political controversies, the screen Diva was entangled in a star rivalry as it was rumored that Funke Akindele hired bloggers to give negative reviews about Toyin’s then latest movie, “The ghost and the tout” Though none of the party validated or invalidated the rumor, it was squashed after Funke Penned a birthday message to Toyin Abraham.

Toyin Abraham’s net worth is not exactly known as she has managed to keep this private, though It is estimated that she’s worth around $3 million and is amongst the top influential stars in Nigeria. 

She also owns a herbal medicine business where she sells herbal drugs to women. And launched the Female Fertility booster to help women conceive and enhance sexual health. While stating the importance of herbal drugs, she lamented on the side effects of foreign drugs which fostered her need to introduce this.

The veteran also known as the cinema queen came to stardom through her hard work and has steadily climbed through this ladder reminding us smoothly the need for consistency and growth. Her movie, Alakada was also one of the highest grossing Nigerian movies at the time of its release.
