A Star-Studded December: Nollywood’s Finest Female Actresses Light Up the Big Screen

They seized the big screen last year — Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham and Mercy Aigbe — when they took full charge of the big screen last December. Three of the big budget films that graced the cinema screens nationwide from December 15, 2023 were executive-produced by these three leading screen queens. Akindele who was then still smarting off the success of her box office hit, Battle on Buka Streets, produced and shared directing credit on her new effort, A Tribe Called Judah, while Mercy Aigbe and Toyin Abraham are credited as producers of Ada Omo Daddy and Malaika respectively.

There was excitement all around moviedom last year. The ladies are back and set to do what they know best. Critics are of the view that rather than see it as competition for the crown of the big screen space, the decision by these leading Nollywood ladies should be seen as a collective attempt to make cinematic statements and to reshape the narrative of movie production in the Nigerian film and digital media space. Here is a preview of the much-anticipated movies by the leading ladies…
