CHRISTMAS MOVIE FROM NOLLYWOOD TOP PRODUCERS

Nigerians aren’t exactly known to be huge fans of Christmas the conventional way, we instead celebrate the Nigerian way, bangers and hangouts.

For a change, binge watching the best Nollywood Christmas movies is one place to begin the Christmas of unwinding and relaxation with your loved ones. 

Everyone would want to argue that Nigerians most likely do not have Christmas movies, but you are in for a surprise, because we do. And not just any  Christmas film, original stories that are unique to Nigerians and Africans. Below are Some of our most interesting Christmas movies of all time.

1.) A Naija Christmas

This 2021 Christmas film by Kunle Afolayin tells the story of a typical Nigeria Christmas experience. Reviews tagged it “A breath of Fresh air” as it was a home produced and focused Nigerian Christmas, a typical one we could all relate to. Telling the story of a Nigerian mother persuading her 3 boys to get married before Christmas, this led to them trying to fulfill this promise, but it crashed, so she set up a plan and brought women for them. Will the boys get married or not?  .

2. Christmas in Miami

A US real estate Mogul who built a $1.9 portfolio in real estate from nothing decides to host an event called the Olympics of Christmas which involves 6 families from different  parts of the world coming together to uniquely celebrate christmas.

This christmas movie sets to give the feel of the festive seasons while giving us some good laugh and exploring the Adventures of Akpos, popularly known as Ayo Makun. The film, also Created by him, explores the intricacies of Christmas beyond one’s culture and belief and shows how others do it as well.

3. Christmas Pressure

Starring Zubby Micheal, produced by Onyenze Amobi and directed by ThankGod Okechi aims to portray the stress and story of a typical Christmas for couples. The pressures a young man and woman goes through because of Christmas and the extent they can go to actualise or complete their Christmas “Wishlist”

Christmas pressure was released in December, 2023 and you can watch it on YouTube at Nollywood classics channel. A worthy movie that beautifully portrays the Christmas reality of young Nigerians.

4. Christmas Getaway:

Comes in two versions, the Hollywood version and Nollywood version. While the former was released in 2017, the former was released in 2022 starring Daniel Etim Effiong and shina rosemary, it potrayed the life of an  Instagram budding influencer, trying to live a fake life to grow her followers which led to a beautiful love story. Merging two storylines together and sharing love and Christmas vibe, the film gives a great feel of love. You can also  find this eye-catching film on YouTube at Uduak Isong TV.

5. Namaste wahala:

A Cross cultural film featuring the two biggest film production hubs in the world, Bollywood and Nollywood tells the story of two love birds from Nigeria and India, who come together despite societal disagreements and parental fights. 

The 2020 cross cultural movie is a worthy film and properly portrays love despite racial differences. You can find and stream Namaste Wahala on Netflix.

Nollywood do not exactly pride themselves as top off the charts when it comes to Christmas movies, but when they do, it’s always commendable and true. These movies aim to give you a Nigerian Christmas feel and we compiled them for your Christmas Netflix and chill.
