AGU: THE CLASH BETWEN TRADITION AND THE LAW

Agu, the latest series on Showmax.

The series portrays a legal battle between the 3 lead characters, Etim {Kanayo O. Kanayo}, Victoria {Ruby Okezie}, and Pius {Nonso Chukwu} as they all got entangled in a court case and legal battle for the murder of Jonathan, a close friend of Pius.

The case is a tough and almost impossible one because we are talking about a man who bashed a close friend’s head and also practices traditional worship. This is complex and interconnected and as complex as this is, E.A Inyang takes up this case for reasons we are not sure of yet. Etim Inyang played by Kanayo is a well read 50 years old lawyer who is almost at the pit of his career and has a slight alcohol problem.

Few days After rejecting a murder case, Etim jumps back on it and accepts the “Forest Murder” case there in the courtroom. He later told an associate he took it to get a chance to be a “real lawyer again” after years of taking charge and bail cases. Etim takes on this case and is expected to go head-on against  the ambitious prosecuting counsel, Victoria Ameh, who knows most of his deepest secrets and also shares a complicated history with him.

However, the case unfolding brought to light many parts and shows nothing is ever as it seems. It sheds light on dark secrets, complex relationships, and the unspoken struggle between the legal and traditional belief system

The series also stars Mofe Duncan as Sola, an egoistic man and victoria’s boss and mentor. Tina Mba, as Judge Akorede, A straightforward and strict judge. Ireti Doyle, as Lola, A senior partner at Lateef Simpson who would  do anything to win a case and maintain the profile of the firm. The series also starring Ego nwosu, Linda Ejiofor, Vine Ologu, And ex big brother housemate, Miracle Op all come to give a blend of feel and suspense.

Adding to this, the director, Anis Galloway explained: “Agu will have a  legal overview and a human story at its  core, dealing with everyday realities and its anomalies and how superstition shapes one’s perspective and influences factual truth.”

Following the series, episode one answers almost no question questions yet and leaves us in beautiful suspense while building anticipation. The young Lawyer, excited about her first case, now has to go head on with a supposed to be her father. And now, Etim and Victoria’s secret being out in the press, how will father and daughter navigate this? Will Victoria still have the case of Is it a lost cause?

The random scenes, intricate detailing, ambitiousness and stern desire amongst others and it promises nothing less than relatable  bangers, suspense and revelations about the law and people as promised by the lead actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo

New episodes are released every Thursday on Showmax.
