The expectations
The excitement that used to follow BBN seems to have waned since the last general elections which coincided with the last BBN. I am sure that if the organizers of the TV show can come out plain, they will tell you that they recorded less viewership in the last show than expected. In fact, the 2022 season 7 of BBN is regarded as the BBN show with the lowest viewership in the history of BBN.
Nevertheless, Big Brother Nigeria remains Africa’s most watched reality TV show and it is probably because of the poor outing of BBN Season 7 that BBN decided to run an All Stars Edition. I see it as a desperate attempt to bounce back using past glories.
The Concerns
The ominously brooding dark cloud over the heavens of BBN is not done with it just yet. It appears the BBN headline sponsors over the years are still struggling with stabilizing their businesses. Some have toppled over.
It was first Payporte.
Payporte hosted for two seasons and they are currently nowhere to be found. As a matter of fact, the E Commerce company is dead! Though InsideNollywood gathers that the problem of Payporte was more administrative and has nothing to do with sponsoring BBN. In fact, it can be said categorically that BBN made Payporte popular.
Flutterwave sponsored too
It is claimed that Flutterwave is also battling with survival. The fintech had raised $350 million last year at a $3 billion valuation. The allegation was that BBN jinxed Flutterwave too as it has been battling some cases of fraud and at some point was shut down temporarily. There were even claims that Flutterwave was hacked and the sum of 2.9 billion was lost to fraudsters. This claim has since been debunked by the manager of Flutterwave. However, Flutterwave has since July 2022 shut down her Virtual Dollar Card service.
Patricia
There are claims that this app is owned by ‘Yahoo’ boys. Patricia had sponsored BBN for two years and stopped. Presently, thousands of people have their monies trapped in Patricia. Patricia, a leading Nigerian crypto marketplace, had suffered a significant security breach, leading to the compromise of its financial assets. The company claimed that it had taken immediate action to protect its user base and enhance its security infrastructure. Withdrawals were temporarily suspended supposedly as part of an internal restructuring to improve security measures, and a thorough audit was allegedly conducted by a reputable security firm.
The company is claiming that their app was hacked and over 2 million dollars lost. But some people still believe Patricia is the real scammer.
In fact, I read somewhere that it was that bad for them and that after sponsoring the BBN show for one year, they had to “beg” Piggyvest to buy them. In tech, they are more concerned about the numbers than actual profit. That’s why apps like Kuda and the rest have been reporting losses, instead of profit.
Abeg is nowhere to be found and had to be rescued by Piggy.
This year’s sponsor is Moniepoint.
The questions
Some people are wondering why Nengi is missing in the BBN All Stars House. It is also curious that the likes of Bisola, Nina, Laycon, Maria, Queen, Thin Tall Tony, T Boss did not make it to the house even when they brought most of the content in their various house appearances and drew good viewership. I learnt that Efe has long been blacklisted by the organizers because he allegedly blacklisted a Multichoice boss.
T Boss my crush didn’t make it either nor did Miracle the pilot.
Big congratulations to Angel, Cee-C, Kiddwaya (the proud rich kid), Doyin, Frodd, Uriel, Pere, Princess, Soma, Neo, Alex, Seyi Awolowo (of the Awolowo dynasty), Ilebaye, Ike, Benita, Adekunle, Tolani Baj, Cross, Mercy (Lambo) Eke, and the annoying White Money (pardon me).
One last word for the BBN All Stars 2023 housemates; please save us the explicit content and show depth of mind and character. Be role models, will you? Let’s hear the story of how you have managed your fame; the mistakes and lessons.
Yagazie!
